Alexandra Olteanu

I have co-organized tutorials/workshops and has served as PC/SPC/AC and in many other service roles for most major web, social media, NLP, and responsible AI conferences. In particular, since 2018, I have served on several service roles for the ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency (ACM FAccT), for which I have been one of the longest serving steering committee members (for a total of ~8 years). Over the years, I have served as a tutorial co-chair (2019), best paper awards co-chair (2020), program co-chair (2024), and doctoral colloquium co-chair (2026, 2027) for ACM FAccT. I have also served as the inaugural co-chair of the Fairness, Accountability, Transparency and Ethics on the Web track @ The 2023 Web Conference (previously known as WWW).

During my time at Microsoft Research and IBM Research, I have been fortunate to host or co-mentor over 25 graduate and undergraduate students from a variety of universities, including Stanford, Cornell, CMU, Harvard, Berkeley, NYU, Colombia, Northeastern, Michigan, Maryland. In addition, over the years, I have also served on PhD thesis defense/qualification committees and/or co-mentored (particularly as part of MSR & Mila projects and during my time at EPFL) about 20 other graduate and undergraduate students.
